Air to air refueling is definitely on the cards and that would be the next thing happening to the two delivered (and the rest to be delivered by end of april). Here is what was on display at IDEAS (swedish refueling probe)

Yes.. Just like what happen to J-10. In the past before J-10 went official,a lot of so call expert(especially Taiwanese reporter)claim J-10 will not have air to air refueling capabilities. Some even claim China don't have the neccessery tech even with J-8II fitted with such capabilities as they belong to Israel. Then suddenly,J-10 went official and even a CCTV video showing J-10 tact with H-6 tanker and carry out a air to air refueling. This fully shut those so call expert.

Those who are going to think JF-17 are not going to fit with air to air refueling capabilites are idiots. If J-10 can fit,why JF-17 cannot? CHina already mention,it all depends on customer budget and needs.. U pay me well the money and I will give u the spec. As simple as that!

JF-17 Finally arrived in Pakistan. Can someone confirm about the current and future status of the RD-93? Will it have any problem for delivery to Pakistan and other potential international market?

That's the 20 million dollar question. The 2 that arrive are the prototypes for PAF assessment. Its not yet in service. Russia does not want this aircraft to compete with its Migs and Sukhoi's in the low end fighter market. India also has a multi-billion dollar leverage on them.

If you don't know just say you don't know! Don't try to act smart. The 2 arrived are not prototypes. They are production serial number 01 and 02..

Everything about JF-17 is according to schedule. total 8 of operational JF-17 will deliever to PAF by end of 2007. 2 of them will be flying tomorrow. China and Pakistan have reassure ' RD-93 engines supply is NOT A PROBLEM !'

So far what Pakistan and China have promise on JF-17 has all delivered. I have 100 percent faith on their words rather than yr illusion. The only delay of the whole process of JF-17 so far is the 04 prototype schedule which is due to introduction of DSI and LERX.... They are not like Indian LCA which has masssive number of times of delay (Just using an exmaple and not trying to pinpoint or flame anything) Other than that Pakistan and CHina don't anyhow bullshit.

I still remember an incident vividly in 2003 Zuhai airshow when a mockup model of 1:1 scale model of J-11B fitted with domestic weapon loaded. The Shenyang personnel claim a J-11B is on the way and China will not import any more engines and SU-27 kit. Kommersant immediately release a news regarding China J-11B that a fully domestic J-11B is impossible and Russian personnel is very skceptical of Chinese able to master everything of their Su-27 and even fitted with Chinese weapon. They claim that is a matter of time Chinese will switch back to importing Su-27 kit to complete PLAAF Su-27 series fighter...

In the end ,who has the last laugh? Russia or China? I think you all know the answer.
So I rather trust a Chinese words than Russian one....

There are 4 prototypes with 3 flying and 1 grounded for stress test. That is standard. The two that are in PAkistan are half of the entire JF-17 in existance. They are prototype 3 and 4.

The FC-1/JF-17 is powered by one Russian-made RD-93 turbofan rated 49.4kN dry or 81.4kN with afterburning. China has reportedly imported five RD-93s from Russia to power the prototypes, but agreement of further purchase and re-export of the engine in together with the fighter aircraft has yet been reached. China may seek to power the aircraft with an indigenously-developed powerplant.

Unless the WS-10 engine is fitted, the JF-17 production is at the mercy of Russian foreing policy. Russia has no problem of exporting its engines to China, they power the J-10. It is the re-exporting its engine to a third party (Pakistan or other) that they have a problem with.

The JF-17 is not yet operational on any frontline squadron. The ones in Pakistan are for the March 23 parade and test.
