Also, the Japanese F-2 program is a total failure. It has AESA radar, but the quality of which is really flaky. .

Is that AESA radar built by the Japanese? It is generally accepted that the Japanese are fairly advance in gallium arsenide technology. The core components of the AESA radar are made from gallium arsenide.:coffee:

i think the japanese retired the f-4, and are planning to retire the f-5 too. the question is, why havnt the japanese built their own design, specifically made for island defence?

I'd like to quote a passage from "The Japan that can say No":

"Unfortunately, Japan has not yet developed a powerful enough jet engine, although I advocated such development while I was a member of the Upper House. Japan still must purchase jet engines, which are mounted on the F-15 and F-16. If America gets really nasty, Japan could buy engines from France, which is quite anxious to export military equipment (at the same time that that country's president is advocating truces all over the world, I might add). If France is reluctant to sell what we need, I would not mind going to the Soviet Union, although the quality of the Russian engines is not particularly impressive."

yep, the problem is that while the Japanese are very technologically advanced, they had not had much experience in developing fighter radars. So, even though they could develop the components, it wasn't packaged very well. So when people mention that F-2's have AESA radar, it's actually not that amazing.

AESA radar is the newest n state of the art radar so it quite hard for japanese
to get it locally manufactured.about aam-4 i think e can't understimate those missile.its tech is from us not russia or europe n they have experience in producing older version of aam before aam-4
