Weight: 3900t (it started from around 2k tons in the beginning but it seems like Japanese learned a lot from LCS...)
Dimensions: 130x16m
Speed: 30+ kn
Propulsion: CODAG (as JMSDF wants to send those to the missions like what we see now in the Gulf of Aden in the future)
Armament: I'll only list here what's concrete and will be there. So here should be Mk 45 5 In Mod 4 gun, 1xSea Ram launcher, 2x4 AShM launcher, torpedos (probably in the form of Type 07 missiles). VLS? Sure, but there's no info how many tubes will be there. According to the sources it could be anything ranging from 8 to 32 cells.
Radar equipement: way too early to tell.

As planned replacement for Abukuma, Hatsuyuki and Asagiri classes 22 of those are predicted to be built with the first batch consisiting of 8 ships with two of those built every year. So in 3 years from now the construction of the first one should start. Good enough as replacement?

Asagiri also hmmm i understand so right now for DDGs only 2 Asahi and later two 27 DD Atago variant.

Decent armament a true Frigate of 2nd rank what we would have liked for the LCS but finaly coming for soon

Well if they have:

1 x 127mm main DP gun
1 x Sea RAM launcher
8 x ASM
6 x Torpedoes

then with even 8 VLS firing ESSM they would have 32 ESSM for medium range AAW coverae as well.

My guess is that they will have decent sonar and at least a hanger for one ASW helo.

If that is what they have, and they put it in that stealthy package, that would be a very decent replacement for the other vessels.

If they upped it to 16 VLS and included eight VLASROCs, that would be all the better.

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force will acquire more Type 11 short-range surface-to-air missile systems, said the source from the government of Japan.

Type 11 is a modern Japanese short-range surface-to-air missile systems currently in service with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. The air defense systems were developed by Toshiba as a further improvement of the Type 81 Surface-to-Air Missile.

The launcher of short-range surface-to-air missile systems based on the chassis of the 4×4 Toyota Mega Cruiser vehicle.

Specifications:

Full length of missile – 2.93 m

Diameter of missile – 0.16 m

Weight of missile 103 kg (approximately)

Some source reported that the Type 11 short-range surface-to-air missile systems have a maximum range of 12 (18) kilometers. The upgraded missile use a phased array active radar seeker, with the capability of receiving mid-course guidance updates from the Fire Control Systems vehicle.

A fire unit consists of one Fire Control System vehicle and two launcher vehicles as well as a number of support vehicles.

Yes, it is one of their very good and effective Oyashio-class. They have 11 of those subs.

But that is a generation older than their newest, which are the Sōryū. They have nine of these completed and will build a total of 13. My guess is they will maintain a total of 20 of these very good subs...replacing the 7 remaining Oyashio with a new class as they come on line later.

The Sōryū class has AIP, the steathy island and the X configuration for the tail planes. They are also larger (4,200 ton submerged vs 4,000 tons for the Oyashio class) with more range and endurance.



IMHO, the Sōryū are probably the best SSKs in the world.

11 Soryu planned IIRC so again 3 and after a new Class but since 2 years they don' t retire SSK after only 20 years ( event not in fact 18 about ) as they do before for increase the number.
The more old have only 19 years !
Coz the Fleet going from 18 to 24 in 2022 in more they build almost each year one so they can easy have eventualy 25 - 30 boats
