To my knowledge MoD had not laid steel for the lead ship yet which is scheduled next fiscal year.Launch is scheduled fiscal year 2018 and will be commissioned in 2020. The second ship schedule is 2018 steel to be laid, Launch in 2019 and commission in 2021.
They will be equipped with AEGIS system baseline 9C and AEGIS BMD 5.1
I believe they will be fitted with the SM-3ⅡA.
Beyond that your guess is good as mine.

Fast for 27DD, in a year.
More big than Atago i have 170 m and 10000 + t full, same weapons load, helos ; sensors, radars also ?

What shipyard ? Mitsubishi, Nagasaki maybe have do 5/6 Kongo/Atago but do also 1st 25 DD...

Any idea why the JMSDF didn't intercept the recent North Korean missile test with the BMD SM-3 from the Kongo DDG ?

2 more DDG with AEGIS would be great for JMSDF totalling 8

It's a Question of Trajectories and risk. The MSDF is likely tracking the launches and watching It's flight. If it looked like a Clear danger they would have likely done something. Otherwise let it be,
scary thought/question: once they realized Charlie aimed at, say,

what would be the time window? wild guess of the time of an incoming missile's flight: five minutes

Sounds good..

So they will start yard work next year and have the first commissioned our years later. The second a year after that.

Outstanding. These are going to basically be the JMSDF Flight III without the AMDR AN/SPY-6(v)

JMSDF seriously needs more tankers

Like China their anti piracy missions showed a lack of tankers

But then JMSDF is focuses on regional deployments

In terms of DDG, FFG and SSK they have scores of warships

Plenty of "critical mass"

They have 5 replenishment ships (3x Towada class + 2x Mashuu class) formed in Replenishment at Sea Squadron so they aren't a part of any of the JMSDF Escort Flotillas and can be dispatched at any time according to needs. They're also homeported to the all of the 4 biggest naval bases in Japan (1x Mashuu class in Maizuru, 1x Towada class in Kure, 1x Towada class in Yokosuka and 2x Towada+Mashuu class in Sasebo). Add to that the replenishment capabilities of Hyuga and Izumo class and it's easy to say it's more than sufficient for now.

JMSDF

Warship tonnage they bring to the table is enormous

Those flat decks are looking VERY nice

2 X Hyuga
2 X Izumo
3 X Osumi

With the professionalism and training they can get most of them out to the sea

Those ships with the F-35 and V-22 Japan will effectively have 2x medium carriers, 2x small carriers, and 3x LHD/mini carriers.
