Speaking from a ICE loving country, I can tell you that of all THE Japanese Car brand only Toyota is still holding albeit on the decline side not as rapid as Mitsubishi , Honda and Mazda though. Major dealers of the 3 said car brands are having trouble retaining sales staff as most of them are applying to join BYD as they open up new dealership around the Metropolis. It also help that Ayala conglomerate hold the exclusive rights (they also had the Honda dealership BUT are planning to let it go after 2 years of disappointing sales) to market them here plus they're putting a lot of charging station in their malls as an incentive (FOC). It's a good marketing ploy to entice the family to shop and enjoy a wonderful meal while waiting for their vehicle to charge.
I'm planning to buy a BYD Sealion 6, it's a perfect transitional vehicle for me before switching to a full EV while the infrastructure are being build up. It offer an eye popping 1100km of range with the bells and whistles you can only find in a luxurious European car at a price of PHP1,600,000 roughly at $28,000. It's Japanese counterpart is Toyota top of the range RAV 4 price at PHP2,400,000 ($42,000) with Spartan design. So the discriminating Filipino taste and prejudice are being won over by the Chinese by a offering a superior product in an affordable price. Even a die hard ultra AMBOY will agree that the Japanese are fleecing us and you can see them lining up to buy the vehicle.....lol By the way there is a 3 months waiting list for this vehicle and you need to pay reservation fee to queue for one.
Regarding Korea cars just like their K-pop is becoming a trend, they're pricing themselves out of the market as they followed the Japanese in their pricing and marketing strategy. Their exterior design hold some promise BUT their interior doesn't justify the price they're asking which is criminal.
