Could be J-15A too though.
Not sure if you could count J-15D or JL-10J as "new fighter".

Doubtful, given that the "新型" phrase typically means a new type/model instead of a new variant.

In the meantime, JL-10J as a trainer aircraft will have less fanfare and hype, given the official capacity for such announcement/hint.

Either way, let's wait for tonight.

After repeatedly watched the video and reading the caption, I have a strong feeling (almost certain) that the "新型" aircraft and J-15 is the same aircraft that was referred to by the interviewee 张乃刚, Zhang Naigang, Sergeant Major 2nd rank of CV Liaoning. When he said "new type" he probably meant J-15 being introduced into PLAN fleet while J-15 maiden flight is part of SAC flight test before certification and acceptance by PLAN.

I remember that CCTV official report used the word "新型" (new type) to refer to J-10 long after we have known the J-10 designation and seen J-10 flying. The official line does not count according what we know, so in our eyes only "J-35" is new type, but in the eyes of PLAN, it is an aircraft still belongs to SAC and NOT introduced, therefor not a type in PLAN fleet. I would even withheld to call it J-35 until PLAN officially says so. In my experience, PLA is very strict in using their words.

If the aircraft really was J-35, how long until there's footage of it? Is there precedent that we can extrapolate from?

If I bought a new Audi GTI, it should not be surprising that I refer to it "Audi GTI", "my new car" or "my baby". A bit more expressive now and then just shows his emotional attachment, but far too weak to prove something.

I'm not a huge fan of the way those cryptic comments where put out onto Twitter as if they possibly could be referring to J-35.

Because:
1. It is so cryptic, it could mean J-35 or some other aircraft. Without a high degree of confidence, preemptively oversharing reduces the long term credibility of PLA watching in the larger military watching sphere at large.
2. Even if they are referring to J-35, even if they referred to it by name, it is still not particularly noteworthy unless they explicitly gave a date and time (or ideally showing footage of it) of some sort of milestone, because that sort of soft teasing is also just more unnecessary buildup for an aircraft whose role, intent and platform deployment that is widely known and not a matter of debate. No reason to share information unless there is legitimate interesting news.

I know Chinese is often a quite cryptic language and even more so in social media certain terms get lost ... but where is the almost confirmation in that sentence?

This poster claimed that during a media conference in 2021 Zhuhai, Sun Cong said J-35/FC-31 will be shown in "3 years". Now the same poster is saying "now it is 3 years" implying it is time to show. It is an old claim of the poster rather than some confirmation from SAC or anybody else. The poster isn't providing any new information but recycling his/her claim.
