Self-explanatory.

, it seems that the so-called blocker is actually stealth optimized (unified) flame holder and fuel injector assembly in conventional design. This is also corroborated by Chinese study papers such as

. This improvement has impact on flow in AB, so it can not be added in an upgraded but old design, but has to be there from the begining.

Remains to be seen if they used engine blockers for WS-21 or are saving it for WS-19.
Surely this technology is already widely used in J-20 right? Why are they not adding it for J-35 on day one? WS-21 is supposedly a brand new engine made for J-35 so it would make sense right.

Nope. With WS-10C you can clearly tell that there is no engine blocker from the rear. In fact Chief Designer Yang Wei admitted that there is compromise in the rear sector during a public lecture.

How is this even allowed, is it due to the fact China is still behind on engines? Hopefully all WS-10C equipped J-20s will have their engines replaced ASAP along with J-35s with WS-21. Chinese equipement are suppose to go toe to toe with the Americans.

It isn’t as big of a deal as you think. Engine blocks are important only for the rear +- 20 degrees from the nozzles. As a rule you need to focus on the +-45 degrees of the frontal section in fifth gen. Engine blocks are a nice to have if you have the excess thrust.

When making design decisions in engineering, there is always trade-offs. The value of rear aspect stealth for a slow single-engine fighter with poor kinematic performance is much higher than for a high speed twin engine fighter with high kinematic performance.
