How much basis in reality does the speculation on J-15/J-16 production lines stopping to accommodate J-35 production have? This sounds incredibly far-fetched.

I'm not sure who has speculated that, but overall SAC has seen some expansion of production capacity even before that big new facility they have built.

It's not unreasonable to say that aircraft production footprint is finite therefore they have to build a mix of different aircraft in any given footprint, but the idea that the entire production of an aircraft type has to be "stopped" to produce a new aircraft type, is a gross oversimplification.

It may be in the process of gradual production reduction. If you pay a little attention to AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Corporation's annual report, you will find that after 7 consecutive years of revenue growth, Shenyang Aircraft's revenue fell by 7.37% year-on-year for the first time in 2024, and by 18.54% year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2025.
Considering the increase in aircraft carriers, the production of the J-15 will not be reduced. Therefore, it is very likely that Shenyang Aircraft is in a transition phase where production of the J-16 has been reduced and the J-35 has not yet entered mass production, leading to a significant year-on-year decline in revenue over the past two years.

lol no. J-15T/D have just started production and J-16D is needed too. According to Yankeesama they are ramping down the production of vanilla J-16 though. Production capacity will go to J-35/A/E and it seems that the naval variant will be given the highest priority.

what about the J11 production lines ? J11D never did come into production did it ? What used to be J11 production lines now do J15 and J16 no ?

But in anyway stopinng J16 and J15 for F35 is a better choice for the defence budget , it will be a much more transformative change to the whole PLA , but J16D still is a needed capability.

"J-11" (which should be specified as J-11B family) to our knowledge has not been in active production for years now, and the only Flanker family aircraft in production in recent years have been the J-16 family and J-15 family.

Make sense , it just the environment of opration for PLA is so contested that switching to 5th gen platforms is a money better spent rather then buying 4th gen platforms in 2026,time is of the essence.
Asia isn't middle east where only 1 contry has 5th gen platfroms, and most have dubious training level.
While that hold true also for the PLAN , technological edge is arguably most felt for an airforce.
