J-35 carrier fighter (PLAN) thread

I'm aware of a degree of smoke happening in mil power when adding/reducing thrust on just about all types but the level of smoke we see here and at Zhuhai look closer to the RD-33 originator. WS-10s smoke less than this so I have no doubts this can be accomplished.
I believe #35006 is still a protorype. A production aircraft would have better fuel mixture management, no?

It seems only J-35A has been spotted with retractable lens
Or simply because we haven't seen newer J-35 prototypes/production models. Remember, the oldest J-35A is younger than the oldest J-35 by two years.

(Well, the WS-13 does have roots from the RD-33/93...)

Yes, that is why I thought maybe this points to these birds are still using 13E (or 21?) as was observed at Zhuhai.
In theory WS-21 has a completely redesigned combustor and immensely improved materials which are the main causes for the RD-33's smoke.

As for whether the WS-13E is the same thing as WS-21? Dunno. The WS-13 family is as much of a mess as the WS-10 family.

The intensity or darkness of the smoke is not a big deal imo, rather it is how often there is smoke through the flight envelope which is the more distinguishing feature.

Photos aren't very useful because they only capture a moment in time, videos are more useful to determine consistency, and from the videos of J-35/A the smoke which it does emanate doesn't seem to be anywhere near as frequent or consistent as OG RD-33

High-resolution version. Pardon the dimensions, but the file size is quite small.

Off-topic, but man the J-35 is the most beautiful jet by far that China has designed.

Agreed, I was thinking of one J-35A that was smokier in "high" mil power and coming out of burner than the others who performed the same maneuvers in Zhuhai videos.

I'll leave it here, so I don't derail the thread further :)
