So no J-20 with bulked up landing gear and a tailhook anytime soon? Logically, I just don't see J-20 on a carrier...I really wonder who she is talking to...

Lots of talk among fans of the J-20, but never anything, even notional officially....

Well, unless there is a magical way to fold a delta wing, Rafale (45.7 m^2) is probably the largest you can get. You can't park that many birds with 78 m^2 wings.

Well, as long the FC-31 is going nowhere there is only one platform avaiable to be navalized. The fact that the J-20 is a large plane is a drawback but China can only play with the cards they have.

Successfully putting a supermanueverable purpose built stealth fighter on a carrier would be something to behold. After all, USN originally wanted F-22s on their carriers, but they were unable to solve the problems.

Even through China has a track record of solving some problems such as EMALS and railguns ahead of US, that wouldn’t necessarily mean that China could bring a F-22 analogue to sea.

It would be a nice bonus (like with the railgun) if they could, but not something I would expect.

The F-35C is technically a delta wing. Yet it has a folded wing.

Also, the notion that carrier-fighters should use medium or lightweight fighters is ridiculous. The A6M was much superior to F4Fs in part because the A6Ms had ridiculous range. Likewise, the Navy to some extent misses the F-14, as despite its high maintenance requirements, it had longer range than the F-18As it complimented and a larger radar aperture for better BVR capability.

China is building all these carriers without knowing what naval planes it will get. Eventually it will have to deal with the problem call "fit".
