It's being reported by the latest edition (2024) of The Military Balance. Not sure if there's another source?
Yeah Military Balance 2024 is also the reason why I thought they had it intact. Also as late as march Deino himself has said that it seems like some J-11 is still under PLANAF control. Also does US Navy has reserves of that kind? Im sure they have something to replace the lost airframes as quickly as possible.

Forget about Military Balance 2024. Their info are out-dated.

Also PLANAF previously operated J11BH and J11BSH, not J11B or J11BS. There are some differences between them. Deino has more authority on PLA and PLANAF aircraft than these media.
So what do you think about the idea about having a carrier capable ground based reserves under PLANAF command for redundancy? Does it make sense?

They already have more J15 than Liaoning and Shandong can carry onboard. If that's what you meant by "reserve". And with J35 to be inducted in near future, there will be more naval fighter jets than the 3 aircraft carrier can carry.

Yes, they will keep some J15 (and J35 in future) on land base as "reserve", and they will used them as type conversion jets to train more pilots in PLA Navy Aviation University.

However, those old J11BH and J11BSH will not likely be returned to PLAN Aviation service in future, nor will they likely be kept as reserve for PLA Navy aviation, simply because of logistic reason.

And lastly, this is a wrong thread to discuss Navy Flanker jets. Please go to correct thread if you want to post more on J11/J15.

Oh yes I meant that. That's good to hear since hopefully more J-35 will be produced than 3 carriers can handle which will be a significant boost to 5th gen fleet of China in case of a taiwan contingency.

Why do i think any type of future aerial invasion will be more drone centric than manned aircraft centric?
