Wonder if it could also fit into the J-20, or if perhaps the naval J-31 will have a larger bay.

well it was said that four of the 500km cruise missiles would accommodate J-20 and the naval fighter. Whether the J-20 can also carry four of the ALBMs is another matter

I didn't find a J-31 thread that was relatively recent, but...

So, aviation week is stating the J-31 is now getting funding to replace the J-15 and the PLAAF is interested for version for use from land as well:

One side of the coin remains skeptical at a Western source getting this kind of info, while the other side is willing to entertain the possibility.

This is from a week ago, but contains some fairly significant rumors from PB19980515 about the J-XY.

Translating it will be like drinking bubble tea from a garden hose, so I'll do a quick summary instead. Please correct if I am wrong in the translation/interpretation.
  • The FC-31 technology demonstrators are used to verify its low-RCS design, weapons bay design, low-risk high-speed maintenance, and assembly line configuration for precision assembly (???)
  • Potential customers for the FC-31 will be those looking for mid-to-high-end cost-effective solutions
  • The main purpose (of the tech demonstrators) will be for carrier adaptation, including takeoff & landing performance, low-vulnerability design (??), high maintainability, fast maintenance, high availability, deck configuration & fitting, as well as subsystems testing (Obviously a lot of help is needed in translating here)
  • I (Pb19980515) am 100% certain that the new carrier-borne fighter will be from Shenyang (as I've stated in 2017), that it will be of a conventional configuration, that it will have two engines, that its AESA radar will have 1500 T/R modules (each with XX watt power output), EOTS targeting device, and distributed aperture system (DAS)
  • It will have integrated EW and radiofrequency management systems
  • 70% probability that it will have flat tails and folding main wings

In a different thread, PB19980515 still maintains that the J-XY will fly at the end of 2019 or early 2020; I'm not going to translate it because it's essentially a word-for-word copy of the above post:

I wonder why does he say "70% folding wing" at all. Isn't that a must for a Carrier aircraft? I know Rafale M does not fold its wings, but that is not China who is building a big carrier or super carrier in line of USN.

I think it means "70% that both folding wing and folding tail" will be present. I.e.: probably 100% that folding wing will be present, but 70% that folding tail will also be present. Weird way of writing it but it's the only interpretation that makes sense
