I have no issue if China copied the design 1:1 if it helps them defend their country better. I'm talking specifically about nomenclature. It takes zero effort to change a name and there are an infinite amount of numbers you could label it. Why number it exactly as the airplane every person is accusing it of copying off of? It just gives haters more ammo to baselessly criticize China.
many fans here in China too hate this designation. Seriously, do you have to, even in naming? like China's reputation of being a copycat hasn't been pathetic and all-round enough, how can anyone even make an honest counterarguement this time, technological imperatives again? as when addressing all those aerobotic and shape resemblances?

but SAC is known for its bad taste in some other occasions too, like the never-changing Green color of the wheel rim, together with the good-fortune Red color of the chamber of those Su-27 variants. Oh by the way, why did they finally decide to scrape those color schemes with J35 this time? In the end we have to accept it, subtlety is never a thing or real strong point in China's propaganda/publication/media anyway.

Green wheel rims I can’t say for sure but the red interior has its uses because it helps to quickly identify whether something hydraulic in nature has leaked. You can see the inside of the J-10’s air brakes having the same red paint. At the end of the day these are weapons and as long as they get the job done well I don’t think either the manufacturer or the military cares that much about what outsiders think. Trash talking doesn’t win wars, good equipment and capable personal do.

Yeh I'd prefer the J-25 to follow the gen 4/5 naming. The land-based version could be named the J-21, following the J-10, J-11, J-15 naming scheme.
J-35(?), while not visibly distinguishable as a new generation aircraft(in the end its direct prototype belong to the same era as J-20), at very least represents an aircraft produced a whole decade later.
Maybe the new naming system simply takes it into account.

It’s only due to some superficial physical resemblance that lead some ignorant people to say it’s a copy, naming isn’t that important nobody says Su-35 is a copy of F-35. You are essentially saying that since you think its already a copy so it shouldnt be named similarly which I strongly disagree with.

I may be wrong but it looks like the Tailplanes (compared to the F/C-31) are elongated, narrower, and clipped (possibly to line up with the wing fold line).
