Re: New Generation Fighter

Maybe I'm crazy, but what do you guys think the chances of China actually displaying the plane publicly? I mean, Russia did. This is China's chance to show they have caught up and can play with the big boys. I think there will be a public showing, maybe I am optimistic though.

Remember, Gen. He already spilled the beans, there is no reason to pretend the plane does exist.

I doubt that. Based on what I understand about the Chinese govn't, they are more worried about losing face IF this thing does not work as promised. Just look at Shenzhou 5. They didn't show the video of the launch until they knew everything was safe and smooth. I think similar thing could also happen with the J-XX.

Also I think the Chinese govn't will intentionally play down the significance simply because they want the world to believe that China sees the successful development of the J-XX as an everyday event, nothing to get excited about. Although they may not feel that way in their hearts, they might try to play like that to show they see themselves as a big boy who won't get excited about something as "trivial" as a 5th gen stealth fighter.

Wasn't there a rumor of the PAK-FA for the very same reason? Some other forums have pointed out that on two videos released the day of the first flight each had a different tail section.

The Chinese plane JXX will likely be equal if not better than it though. China has a lot more money to throw at the project than does Russia.

China may have a lot more money then Russia (advancing faster), but russia is still far ahead of china in terms of military tech. Eventually it will catch up and surpass it, but not yet.

Holy cow, those CG's are like flipping identical to the Plan view of the pic 70092 gave!

I wonder if the artists who made them were the same, or perhaps the CG artist based his drawing on the plan view... Either way, if this is what the J-XX will look like then I take what I said back - it looks great!

the reason they all looked the same is because they gathered the info from the same sources, these bunch of ppl who claim to have access(though minimal) to the project. and their info just happened to coincide so it helped with bringing about a coherent design. according to a "source" that CG is 99.5% accurate.

There are only a very few fields where this is true, the only ones that spring to mind are engines, SAMs and strategic missiles.

In everything else, China has already caught up if not surpassed Russia.

"china has already caught up if not surpassed russia??????" I believe you are way off the mark, or wildly optimistic.in term of aerodynamic (or space borne" China still lag behind.

And how did you judge the level of aerodynamic design sophistication to come up with that?

The Russians have designed and built a PAK-FA prototype, but its far too early to judge the design. What more, the Chinese 5th gen is strongly hinted to be close to a first flight as well, so it would seem strange how someone could pass judgement on something as abstract as aerodynamic design already.

In terms of space, well that falls under the 'strategic missiles' area and has precisely nothing to do with fighters.

In terms of the technology needed to build a 5th gen fighter, China has pretty much caught up with Russia in every major field save for engines, so there is nothing stopping China from coming up with a 5th gen just as good as anything Russia can produce except maybe for engine performance.

And before you bring in experience, ask yourself what experience has the current generation of Russian and Chinese engineers in fighter design? Compared to each other, who has more experience of designing advanced fighters?

Re: New Generation Fighter

My expectation is that the J-XX will likely have a slightly higher amount of composites to its construction compared to the PAK-FA for stealth and weight reduction reasons.
