Well, they would still need slots and openings to control the airflow into the nozzle to deflect the thrust. I personally don't think it's going to happen with the J-20, but it's entertaining to speculate
That's the beauty of making something later: you can incorporate the latest technology so long your project still have time and room to incorporate it in. F-22 can't anymore because it's a "finished" product, but an unfinished one like J-20 always have a prospective chance of it, although from the looks of things, it's quite unlikely that the CAC will switch over to this new tech(if it's conclusive and stable) unless the PLA asked them to; or it's in their benefits. The reason is cause I doubt they'll abandon WS-15 just like that
