Are there any differences between 2001 and 2002?

Even I, a very casual follower of the J-20, noticed a couple of so very apparent differences between 2001 and 2002... By this tone, I guess I meant you must be a lot more casual than I am, or indeed very absent-minded, about the J-20. :p

I watched the new videos. It doesn't seem that the J-2002 has ever performed anything close to what the J-2001 had done.

Those aileron rolls are the only "thing" either one has done other than steep turns and climbs. I must be even more casual, what differences between 2001 and 2002?

You mean visually?

The roundel on the vertical stabs are a little higher up, the pilot tube is centered on the nose cone, and the front door of the two-piece rear landing gear door assembly now usually stays closed when the gear is deployed. It opens only to extend or retract the gear as opposed to the 2001 where that door stayed open any time the gear was deployed.

Other than that, in terms of systems, I'm not sure.

In some of the pictures, the 2002 has been seen with sensors in the aft and fore sections that I haven't really noticed in the 2001. Other than this, the structural outer appearance of the 2 prototypes looks the same. Also, it looks like the control surfaces of the 2002 are employed differently during takeoffs and landings.

There you go, Brat. Kyanges and Quickie replied to your question as to the "apparent" differences I meant. As for any substantive differences, we don't know.

Thanks guys, and I do remember discussing these differences, but I thought you were referring to some substantive differrences that I had missed? I think the fact that there appear to be no obvious differences is a good thing and indicative of the overall soundness of the design, I did note on the J-31 thread that the Air Force Magazine had commented on both of these advance tactical prototypes and their likely usages?
