The speed brake bouncin up and down like that, reminds me of the raincap on the exhaust of our old Farmall Super M when it idles, as it kind of hits and misses. Does anyone recall it being deployed on landing?

Brat, it's from a video, and the only one, that shows the brake open. The bouncing effect is but the result of the sequence being made into a GIF picture, which repeats the move.

There's a hint of gold here.

Interesting picture.

I was never that sold on the radiation warning theory for that yellow circular object. They are never that big, and never placed there. What is sometimes placed there are IRSTs though, and this picture does seem to show that the object is a crevice with some depth and not just painted out.

If this bird has an IRST fitted, it will prove that it has mission avionics onboard.

Seems like this bird was still a few days away from flying at least. Interesting that they towed her out into the open that early, and left it were the wall climbers could see. Me thinks someone likes all the attention this bird/project is getting. :p

We've never seen it deploy during actual landing. My opinion is that the J20 prototype has triple brake system to ensure landing safety, with all moving control surfaces, air brake, and drag chute backing up each other. I fully expect the production model to get rid of the air brake or drag chute, more likely the former because using drag chute is in PLAAF's culture. Removing the rather large and thick looking air brake can potentially saving a lot of weight and space. As PLAAF air bases getting bigger and better I can see the drag chute eventually go away as well, that little popup thing is pretty stupid, but the space can be used to house a towed decoy.

That's interesting -- I thought the yellow housing had some depth as well, and considered if it could've been a window for the EODAS J-20 is meant to be getting but the positioning seemed rather strange. But it would be a far more logical place to put a fixed, A2A IRST...

Here's to more pictures, sooner rather than later.

In front of the cockpit, the yellow thing.

the idea is that it isn't a classic "ball" IRST but rather a "window" -- the yellow seems to be just paint, but the silver part inside appears to have "depth" to it
