I know -- I said "J-20 probably has a bay similar to the F-22's but could be a bit longer --regardlses we haven't got pictures of it yet. And having an internal payload in the F-35 realm isn't exactly something to brag about -- as of now they can only hold half the AA missile load of the F-22."

It was roger who said the J-20's payload would somehow be in the F-35 class, I was just pointing out that even if it were so,the amount of munitions they could carry is far less than the F-22.

Sorry it should have been directed at him.

Guys I should have made myself more specific. You may respond to the articles in the same sort of language the article was written. No excrement talk. No foul language. No name calling and above all no crying about the west hates China. Like I said the media bashes the US everyday..you don't see me crying! I don't want to inhibit the forum. Post within the parameters of the rules!

I wouldn't exactly interpret it as "crying about the west hates China." It's more discredit the Western media as a source of credibility since the skeptic posters always point to the media as if what they publish there must be some level of truth to it. If we can't discredit the media then I hope you give the same who use the media as if everything they say is the truth. It works both ways not just a one-sided affair.

I concur with AssassinsMace, but an attempt to discredit untrustworthy media should be done by professional manners. Attack the message but not the messenger!

Actually, the F-22 has three bays. The large one on bottom, and two smaller ones on each side...as that picture shows.

The F-35 just has the two bays underneath. Both aircraft have the capability to have hard points where more weapons can be attached...but as soon as they do that...in fact as soon as they open those bays...their stealth goes to heck.

FBL stands for Fly-by-Light. On FBW aircraft, signals are transmitted between avionics via wires, whereas an aircraft with FBL uses fiber optics to transmit these signals.

well it's still cable except fiber strands instead of copper/gold etc. So yes think audio cables. or specifically optical audio cable or TOSLINK. They work based on light pulse to simulate on/off or 01/10 etc. Light pulses are immune to RFI and also EMP unlike electrons.

I think Japan's ATD-X was supposed to use FBL as well. If J-20 does use FBL it would be indicative of the engineers thinking outside the box a little.

Experts: J-20 needs 8 to 15 years to match F-22

The J-20 is a prototype. There have been over 180 F-22s manufactured over the past decade or so. A reasonable person would say that the new kid on the block is probably not up-to-par with the mature F-22.

However, some experts (such as Richard Fisher), believe that the J-20 will be the equal of the F-22 in 10 to 15 years.

"Richard Fisher. ... The debut of the J-20 was .... it could take 10 to 15 more years to ... (Others estimate 8 years for an F22 equivalent. .... by the 2020s," said Fisher, of the Virginia think tank."
