Still unconfirmed, but there are reports that assume, the PLAAF's 1st Air Brigade, based in Anshan, within the Northern Theater Command has received their first J-20. If true, this would be - following the 9th Brigade at Wuhu - the second front-line unit, and the 4th operational unit overall, to acquire this aircraft.

What are the odds that j20 units will operate with different number of airframes than j11 units, for example? Perhaps a final, full unit of j10 will operate 18 planes. Or 20. Or 24?

As production rate rises, it is plausible training units would have to get more planes.

Thus the two non first line units might have 6 or 12 or even 24 planes, depending on their use.

And of course front line units will likely have at least 12 ( If they are mixes type units) and plausibly 18-24 planes when they've completely transitioned to j-20.

We might be looking at close to 50 airframes right now, even with the second front line unit just starting transitioning. But by the end of the year 50 of airframes would constitute a very low and conservative projection.

Can't wait for the first image and even more to know if they are WS-10C powered J-20As?!
