Do we know how many Su-57 are in service in the Russian Air Force? One or two?

In his summary review of the battles in Ukraine, Ah Yi (王世纯, aka Wang Shichun, who is often invited by Shi Lao to join him in talk shows) said that "the total number of 5th-gen airplanes in PLAAF is about 80 times of that in the RAF".

He also said that PLAAF has 1400 fighters in total while the RAF has only 400. The number of "special purpose airplanes" in PLAAF is about 10 times of that in the RAF.

His information on Russia's Su-57 fleet is probably just a bit out of date.

Russia had 4 Su-57s delivered as of late 2021 -- though I suppose depending on how one defines the readiness of those airframes, maybe he only considers 1-2 of those 4 Su-57s to actually be able of conducting any sort of missions.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

this is a huge exaggeration and factually inaccurate.

I know Wikipedia isn't always correct but it provides a starting point:

It looks like RAF has 676 unambiguous fighters (Su-57, Su-27, Su-30, Su-35, Mig-29, Mig-35) and 249 maybe fighters (Mig-31 interceptor, Su-34 strike fighter). So around 900.

Which is not China but also not so bad for a major European country.

If China has 80x 5th gen fighters then there's 400 J-20s. I don't think so. Even if he means mission ready that's 160 J-20s. More reasonable, still stretching it a bit high.

Can't believe these numbers, I think RAF's fighters number should be significantly larger than 400.

I think he's referring to 4th gen and 5th gen (US generation designation) fighter totals. And these numbers are relatively accurate. PLAAF has a lot more than 1400 fighters in service if we count all the J-7s and J-8s.

Based on his saying the PLAAF has 1400 fighters, he is clearly only considering 4th gen fighters and above. Russia still has more than 400 fighters but 676 fighters of the 4th gen and above according to reliable tallies means 400 active is pretty accurate. Damaged, lost, retired etc of 676 and down to 400? Many of those 676 are surely decades old.

As for 5th gen, 80 times is a strange statement. Perhaps China indeed has closer to 200 J-20s. This certainly has been sort of the agreed upon thing in Chinese forums. The estimates we have on this side is very conservative to say the least. Based only on what we've seen and what's been reported officially as xyz has now received a large squadron or whatever. The estimates we have are a total bottom figure. I know Deino doesn't like it when we "speculate" but the estimates and "agreed upon" numbers of J-20 in the Chinese side is certainly a little higher to far higher.

Russians have 4 claimed active Su-57 delivered for service. 10 prototypes and pre-production units. He would have to mean 80 times 4 which is unbelievable (albeit not impossible!) but more likely he's just wrong about the number of 5th gens around... or he thinks there's 2 active Su-57 instead of 4.
