I was listening to an interview where a retired general who commanded the Oklahoma Air National Guard who suggested that should resources not be a factor, a pilot really ought to be flying 3 times a week in order to adequately maintain currency and tactical proficiency. Considering Dingxin is where theater-wide tactics are developed and trained so that they can become strategy/doctrine for front line units, I imagine the optempo the general suggested is very much attainable at Dingxin where flight crew get all the air time they need where some front line units might not have such luxury. Doing some rough calculations: 3x one hour sorties a week, multiply that by 4.5 weeks a month, 12 months a year... and we arrive at 162 hours a year. I'd say our maths just about add up, especially since I'm sure Chen Liu would see occasions where he flies sorties longer than an hourIn case of guys at Dingxin they train on J-20, J-16, and J-10C.
According to a report from 2019, Chen Liu had flown 1500 hours by 2018. That means he flew 500 hours between 2018 and now and depending on what time of the year the cutoff is at, he could’ve flown an average of 200-166 hours a
