I.e. It takes two Chinese people to do what a single European or American could.

As per previous, you were already on a short leash. And a repeat of the same in another flagship thread.

I hope on your return in a year, you can avoid this in future.

J-20S coming. Here is the video

Please review past pages of discussion around the twin seater J-20.
Given the video is in mandarin, kindly provide a translation for the English speaking members here, or better yet, assess if you think the video in question is worth posting and if it adds anything to the prior discussion and what you think about the video's points.

====

Seriously everyone, if you're going to post a picture or a video don't be afraid to write a paragraph or two on your thoughts about it, it really makes the forum and these flagship threads a more productive place.

I don't know how reliable that pundit is, but he's basically saying what we've already known.

Potential roles for hypothetical J-20S are as a trainer, ground attack (maybe deeper weapons bay for larger missiles/bombs), or manned-unmanned controller. He said as a trainer alone, 5th gen is too expensive, so it also needs other reasons to get funding. He considers manned-unmanned controller as the most plausible reason for J-20S alongside as a trainer. That's because stealthy UAVs can act as 'bomb trucks' for the manned platform and a second crew would be very helpful for coordinating between the two. He didn't say much about a larger weapons bay for ground attack.

He also thinks fully autonomous UAV that can replace manned platform is a future direction, but for the foreseeable future, manned-unmanned teaming would have to do.

The typical use of tandem seaters in PLAAF has been for air to ground almost exclusively if not for training. J-16 is touted as more of a strike fighter with good BVR capability (by PLAAF's 4th gen standards). Seldom have we got dedicated air superiority fighters with two seats.

5th gen fighters have computing and sensor fusion that free up even more of the pilot's attention. The J-20 can be considered a bit of a waste if not unfit for air to ground unless the intention is to allow the J-20 "strike fighter" version some sort of deep strike capability behind heavily defended airspace. More likely is that the second pilot is used to coordinate drones? China's loyal wingman complement ucav have been hinted on since 2008.

As others stated, the additional seat is for training, ground and drones. I think his emphasis is the control of drones since the J-20 has limited internal weapons bay.

The PLAAF has been extensively looking into UCAV and manned platform cooperation. A two-seater J-20 would be ideal for this because the second operator would be in charge of directing UCAVs. I don't care how fancy the sensor fusion or how prodigious the onboard processing power is, a lone pilot ain't gonna cut it when it comes to operating the plane AND looking after UCAVs.

Thanks.
To clarify, I was able to understand the video and also am aware of the likely roles of a twin seater J-20 as well.

I was saying that in future, if posting a video or an article, especially if it is in Chinese, please provide a summary and give your own thoughts on it for others here.
Don't be afraid to put in some effort to convey your own opinions and interpretations of a video or article.
