Not sure about this specific instance but there have been others where his title got stripped. Most notable one, and the first domino to fall, was that he got taken off CAC's site. Going this long after the initial sign that something was up without a formal declaration of prosecution or ejection though suggests that his offense was likely minor. We'll see but it's unlikely he's in serious trouble. For now the likely conclusion is that he's just being made an example of for disciplinary purposes.

Wow...it really looks like Xi saved CCP/China. He seems to be a godsend to the Chinese nation at a crucial period , because it looks like Chinese government was deeply rife with corruption and factionalism and they were going the way of the former chinese nationalist government ( KMT).
I red the CIA file that was leaked by wikileaks in 2009 about Xi(that was years before he took power) , and they detailed how Xi was known for having strong principles, focused on hus goals of getting to the top, ambitious and incorruptible(though it was also noted that he is eager for power) . That was when he was still going through the lower echelon of the party . that's what convinced me that he is serious about routing corruption in the system, which he was quoted as saying is the greatest threat to the party.
Hopefully the system can carry on with his vision after he leaves power and be more systematic/normalised in the party. Remains to be seen though .

As an academician, Yang Wei (born 1963) is still far from the mandatory retirement age of 70, so this situation is clearly not a routine retirement. In China, academician titles are only revoked in cases involving serious misconduct —a fact that speaks volumes. It is hoped that the issues surrounding him do not involve the J-20 fighter jet.

If the issues are technical then they should’ve immediately stopped J-20S and J-20A and halted production till they are sorted out. We see that this is not the case. Not only did they induct the two types last year but the made a big show of them during the 9/3 parade and in the case of J-20A, they are integrating WS-15 and inducting them this year.

I am pretty sure that the discussion here on SDF during 2023 concluded that by the end of 2023 production cadence may have approached 90 per year. Meaning that during entire 2023 there were likely fewer than 90 delivered. With 2024 being the first year when total annual deliveries hit or overshot 100. Of course, that is still a lot of planes. Likely 200 in 2024-2025 alone. And possibly close to 300 in 2023-2025 period. But the years prior to that saw quite smaller production runs. Possibly just 150 in all the years in total prior to that. Again, a huge total of 450 planes. Maybe some additional deliveries happened in late january 2026 and some more in March 2026. Not sure if 500 is quite yet reached but 100 per year since 2021 is probably not what went on, in my eyes. Such volume would have meant 550-600 so far. Perhaps it is better to be slightly more cautious.

Graft in China is fundamentally different to how graft works in the west, even during the worst times under the PRC.

In China, graft is usually around improprieties on how funds are spent, where people skim a little off the top and/or slightly inflate prices to pocket the difference. Technical performance are independently assessed and validated (ironically, precisely because of the widespread instances of low level graft and the concerns that generates), so you will not get any of the crazy BS that happens in the west where test criteria are changed to make a failed test into a pass.

Two examples of this unrelated fields —

1) Liu Zhijun is the father of Chinese HSR. Arrested and sentenced to life in prison for graft. Doesn’t change the fact that China has the longest and best HSR network today.
2) Gou Zhongwen was also arrested and imprisoned for graft. Under his tenure China achieved record gold medal count in Tokyo/Beijing Olympics.

If something like the California HSR or Ajax happened in China the person in charge would probably be executed by anti-aircraft cannon North Korea style.

Corruption needs to be constantly monitored and kept in check, but I hope the CPC doesn't go overboard. In cases where corruption facilitates things getting down and running smoothly, and the amount is not exorbitant and there is no harm to society or the state, and as long as its not overly widespread, it is fine to turn a blind eye. Frankly what CPC should crack down on are officials moving too many assets overseas to non-friendly nations, and worse sending family (especially children) overseas.

Yes. Ceiling for high ranks, general/minister/provincial governer including scientists in this rank.

Dont public sector workers become eligible for retirement at 60?

People born before 1965 will retire at 60 as before. People born after Jan 1 1965 will delay by 1 months every 4 months (of age), up to maximum 36 months (born after Sept 1976 will retire at 63).
