I wonder if once those J-20 are off of front line service they'll be reengined to some variant of WS-10 or if they will just be moved to some other unit as is. They're not gonna retire them so those early J-20 with AL-31 are going to be around unless they're reengined.

Probably will be used in flight academies like J-10A/J-11B.

To me, the J-20 always looked like a stealth interceptor, and if the WS-19 engines really give up to 180 KN on afterburner, then the J-20 is exactly that - a stealth interceptor.
Fly faster and higher, engage your target before your opponent does, launch rockets and get away.
If you mean the J-20 is an 'interceptor' of other aircrafts in the same sense that the J-10 is the interceptor of Rafale, then yeah I guess so.

Genuine question, is there OPSEC concerns of like letting this be cameramen so close in 4K zoomed in?

Like, why isn't this guy getting Tea Time, or is this not really a big deal? No reveal of sensitive stealth info?
This guy is kind of an amazing photographer, specialist in military imagery and videos. I think he lives in Switzerland, but based on his output he just travels to different air shows and exhibitions all over the world. Some of his stuff though makes me think he has to have a lot of friends who get him into places normal people can't go. Also I think he's using an insane telephoto lens, so he isn't really as close up as you might think.

It’s at a friggin Airshow. People are allowed to enter the F-35’s cockpit at airshows.
Not to mention China is the outlier with military transparency, not the norm. US, Russia and European countries are very open with their equipment, at airshows you are sometimes able to step up to the cockpit and film or go into cargo bays with little restrictions. You'd also notice much more PoV or cockpit videos coming out of the US or Russia etc with little or sometimes no censor/blur compared to China which in the rare occasion a PoV video comes out for a relatively modern equipment you can be damn sure everything will be fully censored.

If J-20 is an interceptor then the F-35 is a bomber based on his definition.

Sigh I wrote that post as a way of wanting to shut down further posts on the matter, but thanks to this I'm just going to delete them all.

Various posts deleted on the "wow is J-20 an interceptor, what do you guys think?" tangent.

We aren't relitigating this.

My only question was why have this big housing space for a sensor that is occupying not even ¼ of the space? Did something get removed for airshow displays?

I have seen this configuration in other images as well, but not sure if they were also from airshows.

so then why don't you explain why you think the J-20 isn't an interceptor instead of deleting posts that disagree with your view? You claim that this is a "settled" topic but I don't see it being "settled" anywhere outside this specific forum. In fact the general consensus over at SPF is that it is indeed an interceptor who's primary mission is to snipe tankers and awacs, while being able to engage other fighters if absolutely necessary

Settled can also mean: end this discussion.
