Here's a better picture, the refueling probe thing is still there.

On the J-20 that ventral spot had various antennas, so I think saying that it might be part of a better or upgraded sensor suite would be a lesser leap of logic.
I agree, most likely whatever paneling, equipment under it and DAS sensor were merely shifted after the spine was enlarged.

Ah, I guess that puts the boom theory offline.

Seems like the PLAAF prefers uniformity and simplicity over a complicated but arguably superior fueling system.

Each system has its own pros and cons.
Given all Y-20Bs are MRTT with soft pipes, it is unlikely for J-20 to switch.
