Maybe it's technology overflow from their 6th gen research reapplied to improved 5th gen aircraft. J-36 already have blended flaps?
The problem is (under my impression at least) we have no idea whether it's just RAM tape (or an iteration of) or straight up flexible RAS seen on the J-36/50. Cause obviously the latter is way more impressive.
I don't think this feature is on J-20S though. There is clearly a gap where the slats are.
It doesn't feel like that big of a difference. Maybe just different production lots/series.
It could simply be bad lighting and low res pic, this one has very obvious discontinuity for the slats. The J-20A seems to have the flexible joint or tape though.
Or I guess it could simply be this specific J-20S not having it because both pictures of J-20S that don't have it are all the same aircraft, 78830.
