Is this the second or third confirmed new J-20 brigade in 2024?

good question… the problem however is, what you rate as confirmed and when was that unit indeed converted? So IMO the 55th is still not confirmed even if there are strong hints it is flying J-20 since mid/late 2023, the 41st was confirmed only in 2024, but that relevant image was taken months before … and similar, the 54th is IMO still not „confirmed“ albeit likely and the 19th AB today is also a strong rumour only.

Hi Deino
how many planes are in a brigade & the number of planes are somewhat same like
other Airforces around the globe
thank you

For some reason, plaaf seems to be using 10 plane units within some of their brigades, alongside 12 plane ones in other brigades. Some brigades seem to have 2, while other have 3 such units. It all leads to a quite an unstandardized roster of units. Some brigades may have as few as 20 planes while others may have 30 or more.
Brigades which have only recently gotten new planes are unlikely to have more than a unit or two worth of planes as conversion to a new type usually takes some time.

Adding the 19th brigade as a rumor, so far 11 frontline j-20 brigades have either been rumored or confirmed. (8 should be confirmed, afaik)
On top of a likely few dozen planes in training center units.

Remember that in a wartime setting, the optimal number of plane units and brigades will vary by airbase.

So there are roughly between 220 to 330 fronltine J-20s then.

Hi,

this many fighters in ready to go for mission another Qs if you able to answer what
is the PLAFF ratio of fully operational fighters ready for mission

Another sighting of the J-20B twin seater. Not sure when the image was taken.

Scramble just updated its listing and now suggests that the 54th Air Brigade has converted to J-16s rather than J-20s.
