Perhaps, but for flight in a formation, there are formation lights.

Those lights and formation stripes are different. Formation stripes are specifically there to make it easier to "match up" the stripes on an aircraft to keep in very tight consistent formation that you'd need for a parade.

For general formation flying as part of routine operations you don't need formation stripes.

Some interesting tidbits from Li Gang's lecture:

1) J-10 has a roll rate of around 150 degrees per second (he mentioned that it took 2 and a half second for a complete roll). He didn't mention the altitude and velocity and other info, however.
2) J-10B TVC never experienced engine failure during flight testing even when performing complicated maneuvers like the cobra and falling leaf. This gave them the confidence to perform said maneuvers at Zhuhai 2018.
3) The person who asked the second to last question is a J-20 pilot and he revealed that his J-20 encountered a software bug during landing during one training mission. His flight suit inflated inappropriately and he and to increase his speed/altitude and eventually unplug his flight suit in order to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the clarification.
