It is usually cited as some ‘Northrop designer’ who said that the best place for a canard is one someone else’s plane.

I cannot remember the fellow’s name.

Alex Lockie also quoted a conveniently unnamed Lockheed engineer who stated that the J-20's stealth design is completely wrong.

No, the yellow bumps are integral to the aircraft's structure. They are part of the aircraft.

If they are part of the aircraft, they were added to later versions:

The ventral yellow bump is a housing which contains the front and rear looking ventral EO PDS, the two bumps at the front at the air intakes are unknown but probably some kind of RF antennae.

Saw the rear one is the EO based on other pix.

If they are part of the aircraft, they were added to later versions:

your photo shows prototype 2002.
the first J-20 prototypes (2001/2002) were not close to production standard and there were many modifications between those prototypes and later 201X series prototypes.

If you look up photos of 201X prototypes including the first 2011 serial, you will find that it has the features we're talking about.

Do flat surfaces on the underside affect stealth? The F-35 is all curvy and looks like it even might even cause interference of incoming waves. Then again the J20 underside also looks like F22.

Eh so confusing.
