Just for full disclosure, what was said is that a J20 was spotted at RiZhao (civilian) airport in Shangdong province.

The key sentence exactly translates is:

‘Don’t know if it coming here is related to the navy’ (I don’t have the exact eyebrow-lift-sideways-glance emoji).

I leave it to each member to decide if the question is rhetorical.

Interesting that the V-tails seem to be huge. For naval aviation, we usually see increased wing areas to increase lift for short take-offs. Why enlarge the V-tails, though?

I think it’s just prospective.

The J20 is at an acute angle to the photographer, but the droop of the tail with hydrolocs off meant it is almost facing head-on. Thus making the tail seem a lot bigger than on a normal shot when the tail is viewed in relation to the rest of the plane.

You can see a similar effect in the below image.

Newest rumor from Hui Tong:

Said to be a (land-based?) naval variant of the J-20

Okay!, in response to Hui Tong, and another member who commented on the apparently huge verts,,, I will play "devils advocate",,, yes they do look huge, maybe the Naval variant J-20B will reduce the size of the vents when they incorporate a "hookey thang", and if there is a naval variant, it will get a hook and maybe they will incorporate OVT, and those vents will go away, "alla" the SU-57?

notice Hui Tong had lots of emojis???;);)

honestly though, the FC-31 is likely gonna be the "carrier bird"???:cool:
