BY the way, '2017' seems to have the older - regular J-11B/BS & J-10B style - HUD again.
Also, a key thing to note is that in the picture you are referring to, 2017 and 2011 are set at slightly different angles relative to the camera, therefore the HUD of 2011 is seen completely side on (therefore looks thinner) while 2017's HUD is seen from a slight angle to it looks thicker.
That is why true accurate comparison of 2017's HUD with any other J-20 prototype (until we get more high quality pictures) will be dependent on having other J-20 pictures showing the aircraft at the same angle.... and that is essentially the cockpit comparison pic I posted in post 951. Unfortunately that pic of 2016 is not very high quality either, but it does give a far better view of what the HUD is like from the same angle.
Personally I am highly confident hat the 2017's HUD is the same model as that of previous 201X prototypes, but it may possibly feature slight thickening of its frame especially at its superior portion. I am also highly confident that 2017 definitely is not using the same type of HUD as J-11B/J-10B, because that particular HUD model is far significantly thicker and also features additional components compared to what we see on 2017.
If 2017 was using J-11B/J-10B's HUD model, it would be obvious even in low quality pictures and not a subject of dispute.
Of course it also doesn't make sense for 2017 to suddenly revert back to an older type of HUD when they've been using the new kind for six successive prototypes without issue... OTOH it makes a lot of sense for them to add a small modification to their current new type of HUD in preemption for LRIP.
