I think they're upgrading the 2015. Maybe this is the final prototype before the plane comes into production in 2017

You can still see instead of the dark gray area it's of a different lighter silver/gray color from the older images.

Yes, it has the same structure ... the question is only: why was it repainted (if it is paint) or replaced (if a new or different material) ??

My guess is it's materials testing in accordance to the radar technology for even perhaps the next stealth fighter for the future PLAN carrier fighter as well.

It could still be the same dark grey. Some glossy material can look to be a lighter color when viewed at certain angle. In the picture, the band actually looks darker on the bottom part of the radome.

^^^ That pic is old, came out not long before or after J-20 was first unveiled.
I think it used to be one of those rumour pics arguing for the existence of the Chinese 5th gen project.
