So the PAK-FA then as well :D

Well, the T-50 is planned to be produced with the 117 engines for the first batch until the engine is ready. It's a powerful aircraft engine that provides the aircraft with all the important features like supercruise and tvc.

We all stated that the J-20 is designed with/around the WS-15 in mind and anything else is just stop gap solution. My original point was if China needs even another prototype if the WS-15 is still not ready but if the other prototypes aren't good enough - we have seen several modifications on them as part of the development process.

IF...in that case the J-20 is one helluva a flexible plane. To be able to fit in and modify slightly to concurrent engines meanwhile still keeping the program growing stronger with it's original engine intended for. The T-50 and F-35 both has some issues with their engines before and look whose program are NOT stalled or had number reductions (F-35). Like I said before...it's...all...about...the...program. Everything else by the naysayers are just speculations BS.

Well, that the WS15 suffers a bunch of problems was stated by several sources and not just by naysayers.

The point is just that we were expecting the next prototype in Spring this year, at least based on the sources and leaks which showed a quite optimistic picture of the J-20 programme.
Either the sources were bullshit/outdated or the J-20 did run into some problems which can be about everything. We can only wait.

Well, of course. That's the problem with most of the Chinese stuff, we are working with basically nothing substantial for the most time.

And looking that most people here expected a new prototype the past months I don't think you can only blame the naysayers here.

..............

You only say that because you don't know where to look. One way to fix that is just to follow the posts of the experienced observers here. This is the best English site for PLA stuffs.
It saves you from wasting time looking at sources whose credibility you don't even know.

Wait. Which sources and what problems? I'd me interested to know since it's hard to come by any information about the ws-15.

We could assume the full development phase of WS-15 started before, certainly no later than, the high level specifications of J-20 could have been finalized. That would place the full development phase start at between 1997 and 2000. The first bench test WS-15 hot section was allegedly conducted in 2005-2007. Until today there is no indication of a flight worthy prototype. That is an a fairly long lead time between start of full development and hot section test, and even more inordinately long lead time between hot section test and any flight worthy prototype engine. With good funding, typical time from full development to first flight worthy prototype is only 5-8 years. From this we can conclude WS-15 has ran into very significant difficulty, and the solution probably involved substantial redesign of the engine after 2007 time frame.
