I would argue that the current non-supercruise capable J-20 probably would not be able to outperform the F-22 (which would probably be the best fighter plane up until the late 2020's, when the WS-15 version of J-20 and upgraded Sukhoi T-50 become available). However, the J-20 should be able to at least match the performance of the F-35A and have superior combat radius. The F-35A isn't designed to supercruise.

Its quite doubtful that the J-20 or T-50 will actually ever outperform the F-22 IMHO, the F-22 was designed as a "money is no object", stealthy, supercruise and supermaneuverability the whole package, and the F-119s, while upgraded in the F-135 are still extremely cutting edge.

Now the J-20 should be very L/O, while we know the T-50 has compromised on L/O in order to have more "terminal performance", and they may both eventually be "faster", possibly even as or more maneuverable, but as for L/O, supercruise, and avionics, the F-22 is still in a very rarified class.

And IMHO, the F-22 is not nearly as mighty as it's made out to be and Chinese engineers undoubtedly tailored J-20 to counter the Raptor's merits. A "money is no object" 90's design (that occasionally chokes out the pilot) does not mean that it will be superior to anything today. A "money is no object" 1995 computer is worth as much as a boat anchor compared to a baseline 2015 tablet. Not saying anything will be that drastic but your "J-20 and T-50 are beautiful birds that fly exceptionally well and are really stealthy except they definitely can't hold a candle to F-22" is a "compliment" not worth 2 cents to rub together. If these aircraft cannot defeat their rivals, they are worthless. Their performance can only be evaluated in direct comparison to their ability to complete their mission, which is to deter war by removing any perception other countries may have of achieving air superiority over China.

Whether they are/will be superior to F-22 is not a topic I like to discuss and I hate it whenever someone brings it up because it always results in people making claims about the unknown and it always comes with a "compliment" from brat. "Your kid is so fast and talented and agile! He's such a wonderful rising young gymnast! Such a powerful combination in an athlete! He's going to have such a brilliant future! Hey, maybe he'll take silver behind my kid at competition next month! Wouldn't that be awesome?" What f-ing a compliment LOL.

I remember reading an anecdote about a man complaining that he had a lousy computer and his boss said: "You have the most expensive computer in the house. I paid $16000 for it." He had an early 386, his colleagues had 486's.

In addition nothing for sensor fusion for J-20 and T-50, some say again more important than stealth for be classsified as a true 5th generation fighter.

How do you know there is no sensor fusion ? The plane must have some kind of sensor fusion maybe not up to par with the F-35 yet. But still sensor fusion is I believe a key part of the planes design. And its no secret how it works. The question is how well can China make it work.
