and if things proceed in a linear fashion, we should see 6, 7, and 8 in the next 4 to 6 months??? that would be my guess, at some point, things are going to acquire a "flow" and begin to be more prolific and more predictable. I would remind that all the early F-22's were basically "hand-built", and lots of parts required "fitting" to individual aircraft, taking a lot more time, and causing "jinxs" in maintenance. So lets keep our "expectations" reasonable.

It appears that the Chinese are making the effort to really "get this right" and they are indeed on a much more stable track than the Russian effort, which does seem to be getting back to work as well. The SU-35 deal will give Sukhoi a much needed infusion of cash, and China some "air-power" in the immediate future.

so this whole business is "intertwined" and we'll see where its heading next.

What is the winning light/medium stealth fighter that beat the FC-31?

Sometime last year, there were claims that CAC was developing a single-engined fighter powered by WS-15 with a payload of two BVRAAMs. That seems a bit small to me but those were the claims. This rumoured project could be the one that struck down the J-31.

Alternatively, the PLAAF/PLANAF mightn't have hosted a competition at all and simply were not satisfied with the J-31 and decided that if the J-31 was the best they were gonna get, they'd rather just not have a medium fighter.

What can you do with two BVRAAMs? Are they bringing back the point-defense fighter, except with stealth?

Well, they could not carry BVRAAMs and instead carry 4 or more SRAAMs.

With stealth tech both massively reducing radar detection range and effectiveness of radar guided missile seekers, there is a good chance future stealth on stealth fights will end up being settled the old fashioned way - with guns and dogfighting missiles.

Such a medium stealth fighter would work with the heavier J20, with the J20 focusing on BVR, with the medium stealth moves in to engage the enemy in dogfights.
