To admit I don't understand this surprise ... this all is known since '2011' and all other aircraft have the same modified configuration. The only "last minute" changes are the slightly modified tail-sponsoons and with '2017' a new canopy.

Yes, I knew all of that, it seemed that he was talking about 2101 specifically, hence my comment that it was late in the game to be making big changes and no one else had mentioned them??? Whew!, had me worried?

There is rumour Some1 has been testing 5 different engines.
Who is some1 ?

I would highly question this report, since it simply can't be that they were testing five different engines on five different J-20s ! That would be plain stupid and even more so many different suitable but different engines are simply not available ... at least not in China.

Possible might be at best the standard AL-31FN in 2001 & 2002, the uprated AL-31FN series 3 from 2011 on ... but surely not a WS-10, WS-15, or any other magical powerplant some assume. IMO pure wishful thinking.

Does anyone see 5 differently shape J-20 DSI from picture below
and know why ?

As far as I understand the discussion around this issue since 2011 appeared there might be some minor changes but surely not five different intakes ... so far common consensus was that it's more an issue of painting or coating and different conditions of light, what makes these bumps look so different.

Sorry, but since China does not produce the AL-31FN this would assume that Saturn is producing so many different engines with the differing items You mentions ! But why ??

I'm sure Saturn will have considered that all in their development of the current engine regardless if it is a standard Series 3 or any other special version, but it is ridiculous to think they were producing five different sets of engines for five different intake configurations ... no-one would do that.

And regarding the colour ... IMO nothing special.
