Nope. It is a depression, slight but it is there ;)

Awe! isn't the Raptor cute, curvy and slik, she is soooo gorgeous! Nice tight effective lines, very well proportioned and mass centralization is obviously the key to the Raptors super manueverabilty, with the center of lift and the center of gravity in the right place, zoom! zoom! gotcha!

Its a depression, F35 has the bulge.
I was wrong.
but still gives us some thing to look for.

Yes, and relating these to J-20, my point is that the fact that J-20 doesn't have a bulge doesn't mean anything, because it could either have a difficult to spot depression, or the gun may be positioned at a place where neither a bulge or a depression is necessary to provide a clear field of fire.

A depression means there is no spatial constraint for the gun, to the point that the panel actually pushes inward. Thus, they can make it flush if they wanted to. Something else on the F-22 made it necessary to have a depression. Since the design of the J-20 is different from that of the F-22, the Chinese engineers might have decided that the depression is not needed on the J-20.

The reason for F-22 to have a depression is to make the "door" smaller. They could have done it flush but it had to be around twice longer to have the same clearance.

I agree that on J-20, it may be flush especially after redesigning the intakes which made shoulder curves much more pronounced hence probably creating the required clearance for the canon.

You're right on here vesicles, and if the J-20 is designed with an internal gun, that, and the internal weapons bays are placed where the engineers want them, and the powerplants, cockpit, etc, etc, and the designers build the airplane around them. Remember the gorgeous Lockheed F-104 was designed as a lightweight, very fast interceptor to run down, shoot down, Soviet bombers before they could release their deadly payload, after the ICBM replaced that threat the USAF turned their attention to the real threat, but lots of folks bought, built, and operated the F-104 in different roles. Roles that taxed the airplane and pilot, gorgeous but not to be trifled with, all that performance came at a price with 50s aerodynamics, as awesome as they were, (and they were awesome, this bird is one of Kelly Johnson's trademark designs, forerunner to the "SR-71, blackbird"), this airplane earned a reputation as a "widow-maker", but it did get the job done, and if flown with-in its "aerodyne mic envelope".

My point is that if the J-20 has an internal gun, as a fifth gen stealthy design, the gun is where they want it, as this is just the third flying prototype, there "ain't" no gun on this bird" really,, why would you put a gun on a test bird, they will be pushing, poking, and stretching the third bird to the limit, but if there is one, it will be well hidden, and likely not need to have a bulge.
