if you look closely the two have different shades, meaning the front one is intake and other one is escape

Like i said in another place, imo those meshes are simply air bleeds, but meshed over to make them LO to a certain radar band.

This image is sharpened (hdr tone-mapped) to show more details.

One more (1600x1000 resolution). The workmanship is impressive and considerably better than the T-50, IMHO. Notice the wide-angle HUD does have a thin frame around it after all.

Even though j-20 flew 2 years later than t-50 I get the impression from this photo that 2011 is closer to production configuration stealthy fighter than latest t-50 prototype, and the stealth aspects of j-20 program is running well ahead ahead of that of t-50 program.

I think at this point the latest t-50 prototype is still only a signature reduction aircraft, embodying some basic signature reduction shaping, but lack most of the refinements needed to come close to American level of stealthy in actual service. I wonder if t-50 is really not intended to achieve a level,of stealth comparable to f-22 or even f-35 at all.

I would not be surprised if j-20 design aimed for a much higher level of stealth from the front and side than t-50.

Pretty sure that's an effect of angle. The first hexagon sits on a curved surface relative to the second one. Thus it looks lighter, because we're seeing mostly the sides of the mesh, while the other one is darker because we're mostly seeing the holes. In fact, if you compare the different pictures, depending on the angle, which one is dark and which one is light will switch.

I don't know if it's been mentioned on this forum before. but on some of the other ones (and not the fan boy sites)
It's been well discussed that the T50 build favored performance and cost a bit more then stealth.
They were willing to "pay" up to a certain amount for stealth where as with the F22, cost was secondary to maximizing stealth to the highest degree.

Had to chuckle when I read your comment, one particular forum on the net had a 30+ page "discussion" about how the J20 was a totally failed project, all because it had a thick frame HUD :p

That's intetesting; once I came across a post on another website that claimed the aircraft project is failed since it is currently doing flight tests and is doing another "first flight".

30+ pages?

Which forum is that?

I don't remember exactly which one, I've been on so many :p It was like a year and 1/2 ago
but it started with Indiandefence or Indian aviation/army of some combination
(is it even ok to mention another forum here? if not I'll delete)
