Well that's that then. The 3rd batch has arrived.
I still think they could do without if necessary however. I doubt they will operate both carriers simultaneously all that often.
But given they lost a couple of J-15s already I guess this was more of a concern than otherwise.

I would like to see a J-15 upgraded with J-16 tech or more modern engines but they probably will wait for the stealth fighters.

I think they will continue to build more J-15 to serve on the 003 as well in tandem with the stealth 5-gen fighter they are designing. I envision a ratio of 2 J-15 squadrons per 1 squadron of J-xx for a while on 003 CVs.

For one thing, pitot tubes have absolutely no bearing if the plane uses a slotted planar array or an AESA. That's like trying to ascertain if the engine of a car is a DOHC multivalve engine or not by the shape of its headlights.

Given the years of separation between the earlier and this batch, we should expect some improvements from the data and experience accumulated, as well as up to date improvements on the electronics.

What's the likelihood of the following explanations for the new photos:

A) The planes marked 31-35 are indeed the third batch.

B) The planes marked 31-35 are in fact older, already seen planes, but they've yet again been renumbered. There is no third batch yet.

C) The planes marked 31-35 are in fact older, already seen planes, but they've yet again been renumbered. There is a third batch, and for some reason the new planes have received the 01 to 24 serials.

KH-31 is very much suited to antishipping role. Which is why Kh-31A variant exists in the first place. Given that, I would find it extremely unlikely that PLANAF is not fielding an antishipping variant of the YJ-91 missile as well. Kh-31AD variant has a range of 160 km (fired from 15 km altitude, at supersonic speed) which is okay-ish, but the main attack profile would likely be to fly closer, under the radar horizon.

And we don't know if YJ-91 missiles are in fact the same as Kh-31.
