At the very least should've sent an actual plane for the show. Given that the arrangement was first announced more than 6 months ago, arrangement of an actual plane could've been made ....unless the plane in question was to be provided by Pakistani AF and the current situation put all available assets on combat alert thus can't spare one for participation?

CN has enough J-10 so one can be sent there if they really want to. I think what happened was just that they went with their original plan regardless of what happened during the recent Pak-India conflict. I mean suddenly changing the plan and sending one to Paris after recently downing Rafael is kinda trolling. China occasionally does pull trolling stunts but is generally on the conservative side, especially with countries with whom there is an okay relationship like France. It's also expensive to get a larger aircraft that faraway, which is likely why the original plan doesn't include any.

Or maybe there was never an intent to provide an actual aircraft at the show, and events since then had not changed anything?

PRC MIC are not competent at PR or seizing moments of opportunity in good taste, and it's annoying that people still express an expectation that they would do so.


If there is ever an option between "satisfy PLA watching crowd" versus "disappoint PLA watching crowd" in terms of "enthusiasm and hype," it is always prudent to assume the latter as default.

BaYi should definitely count since the performance aircraft have the radar/avionics all in tact. They can hypothetically perform combat duties if required.

He technically ain't wrong, J-10CE isn't particularly optimised for A2G role, definitely not capable of nuclear strike and isn't carrier capable. So he is right that Rafale could do all of these stuff better than the J-10CE.

Well one could argue the Rafale isn't optimized for the A2A role and nuclear strike will never be exported and not every Rafale is carrier capable.
