Tbh I don't consider aviadarts too impressive, the J-16s always seem to participate in a basic A2G role with unguided rocket pods.
I'm aware J-16s have been involved in Shaheen exercises, but I can't recall on how many occasions J-16s actually left PRC territory (it would be Pakistan anyhow).

AFAIK Falcon Shield exercises occurred in PRC territory.

Anyway, the reason I specified "overseas exercise" and "that far abroad" (Egypt distances) for J-16 and in relation to J-16D, is in the unlikely event of a malfunction or crash or ditch, then the idea of a J-16 (or a J-16D) being lost over international waters or in territory that is not immediately adjacent to China (like Pakistan, Russia) could have some adverse consequences to secrecy/recovery.
I think KJ-500 has just as sensitive, if not more so EW equipment than J-16.

KJ-500 I would consider to be comparable to J-16 at this stage.

However, the original comment I made a few posts back is in relation to J-16D, which I rate as more sensitive than KJ-500 or J-16.

The reason I wondered whether J-16 had made any serious overseas (i.e.: long distance, over international airspace/waters, not adjacent to China) exercises, is that if even standard J-16s had not made such trips before over long distances then it would be rather bold to send J-16D on such a trip (which this exercise at Cairo would be).
