Not really, Su27SK lost BVR while won dogfight against Gripen. I would say it is not bad for Su 27SK at all, considering it still uses old school Phazotron N001 radar.
Su27SK, along with Su27UBK, are about to retire in the next 2-3 years. Sending them to fight Gripen is a very good deal to PLAAF. There is very little to lose and there is so much to gain.

From what I've heard Thailand will not use Gripens this time due to American and Swedish pressure.
