Very kool Bub, I just love taking off in the snow, and trying to stay clear of clouds, don't forget to turn on your Pitot Heat, and your defrost, and on the 172 your air filter could possibly plugged with snow, so if you begin to lose power, apply carb heat immediately, pulls intake air, off the exhaust manifold!
You pull on carb heat every time you reduce your throttle below cruise, as carbs will ice up as induction air is kooled as it is accelerated through the venture in the carb!
Flying in the cold dense air is a treat, your engine can make more horsepower, and the aircraft develops much more lift in the cold dense air! Your climb rate can double from a Hot humid summer day!
