J-10 Thread IV

Finally, the Chinese have unveiled a new stealthy air-launched cruise missile, their first counterpart to the KEPD-350 and Storm Shadow / SCALP. Note the intake under the missile; this thing is powered.

With stealthy stand-off munitions like this, the J-10B/C could roughly finally match the capabilities of the Rafale and Eurofighter in virtually all sectors, including air-to-ground.

Any estimate for the range of this weapon?

I remember the unpowered GB-6 gliding dispenser was about 130km range. So, the powered variant should be at least 400 - 500km, no?

I think it should definitely be in excess of 300km at least, given its size and the range of other similar weapons.

However, considering this is also a weapon that's being partly marketed for export as may other munitions shown at Zhuhai are, I wouldn't be surprised if they listed it as "290km" for MTCR purposes but in reality having longer range.

Another thing of notice; from the intake design it looks like they have reused the YJ-82/83 series of turbojet, the TRI 60-2.

Not a bad idea at all, as this gives me hope that they would modify this weapon as an AShM as well. Maybe even a ship-launched one, when adding a booster and/or stretching the body a bit more, while reducing the warhead from 500kg to maybe 200kg or even lower... This would result in a YJ-83 sized and similiar performing AShM that can be used to equip the majority of China's surface combattants.

Anyway, this would be a good solution to finally "stealthify" the mainstay AShM of the PLAN.

Any estimates of its size/weight? If it is indeed a close counterpart to the JSOW-ER, it should be significantly lighter/smaller than the Storm Shadow or KEPD350.

Since it could be based on the earlier GB-6 or CS/BBC-5, which features either a 500kg cluster or unitary warhead and weights 680 kg in total, I'd say it would be close to 1 ton at least - or possibly more. It needs fuel and additional electronics, not least the turbojet engine.

Wikipedia doesnt tell the weight of the JSOW-ER, only of the unpowered variant, which weights under 500kg.
