Two US soldiers have been killed in separate attacks by militants in southern and eastern Afghanistan, US military officials say.
The deaths bring the number of US soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year to more than 80.
One US soldier was wounded in one of the attacks, near the southern city of Kandahar, a US military statement said.
Incidents of violence have continued in Afghanistan following parliamentary elections held more than a week ago.
Ground assault
In the clash near Kandahar, militants fired rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire at US military vehicles on Monday, the US military statement said.
US and Afghan forces were taking part in a ground assault when the incident took place, the statement said.
The wounded soldier is in a stable condition in a Kandahar hospital, it added.
In another incident, near the eastern town of Asadabad, a US Marine was killed when militants attacked a US forward operating base on Monday, the statement said.
The US leads about 20,000 troops in Afghanistan and has lost close to 200 soldiers since late 2001 when it began Operation Enduring Freedom and toppled the Taleban.
More than 1,000 people have been killed in violence linked to militancy in Afghanistan this year.
