I follow IranDefence hoping for pics but clearly no one there has anything like the level of awareness, common sense or objectivity of this site. Lol at their thread on this "destroyer". Caspian see, lol.

Yeah, really funny.
There is no such thing as a serious thread on IranDefense anyway. Bunch of newbies.
As for the pics, there don't seem to be any on the net. Still searching. :coffee:

Still searching for more substantial evidence of this ship. I do believe it exists because of the Google Earth evidence, but why no pictures?

I've been trawling through Iranian news sites looking for photos of ports and shipbuilding just hoping for a glimpse in the background.

Here's an interesting pic, looks like the bow of a medium sized ship. The hole in the side is for a bow thrustor?

(Now using this thread for open research notes)

Re the indiginous Sina FAC, this image is allegedly it:
sina.jpg

At first sight it looks exactly like the existing Kaman (Combattante II) FACs but the hull number is indeed not one of the 10 delivered (see hull numbers list at

The Diomil site doesn't load for me so I'm using google cached pages. Some interesting data for indiginous naval products

The locally produced China Cat seems to be called the Bahman:
The vessel is catamaran series designed and manufactured for patrolling, search, rescue and carrying the military passenger for reinforce, capable for maneuvering in 3-4 sea states, with 2*2100 HP engines, ZF 2200 l propulsion system and surface piercing propeller for driving. The vessel is catamaran series designed and manufactured for searching and rescue for defense reinforces,
equipped with 16 rockets, advanced navigation communication system, two 1150 HP engines, SDS (surface driver system) propulsion system and surface piercing propeller with speed of 55 knots including safety application according to the rules of IMO.

(this gives us a good idea of the China Cat's performance)

Another local China Cat knock off is this:
boat12m.jpg

The vessel is surface effect, super structure made of marine aluminum grade 5083 with catamaran hull, as a fast vessel with high speed of 58 knots in calm sea. The vessel has a good manufacturing & sea keeping in environmental condition such as (weather & sea) water temperatures and relative humidity 95%, including 2200 l propulsion system with the surface piercing propeller, provided by two 660 HP engines according to the rules of DNV.

And here is the China Cat page:
missle.jpg

The vessel is catamaran series designed & manufactured for searching & rescue for defense reinforce, equipped with four missiles and controlled by F.C.S (fire control system) & tracer radar. Power for the vessel is provided by two 1150 HP engines. The vessel has SDS (surface driver system) propulsion system with surface piercing propeller, having speed of 55 knots in 3 or 4
sea states, equipped with advanced navigation & communication system including safety application such as life boat according to the rules of IMO.

Note that it says 4 missiles not 8(!!!!).

Can't find the SINA or Mowj (?) pages cached

I'm curious if this Mowj-class Missle Corvette (or Light Frigate) will use LY-60, HQ-7, or some other SAM system.

Technically, the ship isn't as advanced as what some of the Gulf States are buying from European suppliers. But most of the Arab states don't build their own warships, submarines, or combat aircraft. The Iranians could at least construct/assemble the Mowj, Wale-class Submarine, Azarakhsh and Shafaq aircraft. So I think they deserve some credit for being a little more self-sufficient than the neighbors.

I doubt the Iranians are going for high end products such as the equipment the other Gulf States are pursuing. They have one of the world's largest oil reserves and largest natural gas reserves, yet they are spending an extremely small amount in actually improving their overall conventional capability (the only significant improvements seem to be in the area of missiles). Iran is vying more for influence in the region than anything else and influence can't really be achieved by fancy military equipment.

The fact that they are actually making their own military equipment though is still an accomplishment nonetheless.

I looked at the extensive list of domestic Iranian defense industry projects/products, and suspect a major portion of their defense budget is hidden in R&D expenses. In some ways, the Iranians are similiar to the Chinese. After being cut off from Russia (China) and US (Iran), they were forced to develop domestic industry to support and produce spare parts. And if you obtained the ability to build all/most spare parts, it's not far from reverse-engineering the whole thing.

And thus we see Iranian companies like Panha, which was initially contracted to produce replacement parts for US-made helicopters, gaining the ability to rebuild, upgrade, and revere-engineer the AH-1 Cobra (Panha 2091). Then they reverse-engineered the munitions like TOW ATGM (Toophan) too.

The Iranians domestically manufacture everything from planes, UAV's, tanks, missiles, APC, SP artillery, ships, submarines, to an assortment of munitions based on US, Russian, Chinese, and domestic/hybrid designs. Except for a small quantity given to Hezbollah, they don't really export these products at a profit, and domestic (Iranian armed forces) purchases are limited.

I have to think all these projects are quite expensive when combined. The Iranian Defense Industry isn't the most advanced, but it's a lot more self-sufficient than any Arab or Muslim-majority state on the planet, including Pakistan & Turkey.
