Elizabeth Holmes would probably get away with it today. Instead of faking the results, she would just promise outrageous things and talk about how her work is essential to counter China. A lot of CGI, very aggressive social media activity, announcements of new products after new products, and bingo... a multi-billion USD valuation. Then a sucker VC fund buys the company or it keeps living on government funding. There are probably dozens of such scams in the silicon valley right now with the most prominent one being Anduril. We are in the golden age of fraud.
