Well, like so many other carrier projects, this is another one we have watched for a number of years here on SD, back to the time when it was first announced that the conversion would be made.Sh was bought because she would be available earlier than the new built Indian flattop and despite the delays in her rebuilding that is being achieved. Vikrant too is delayed about five years.

Now it is happening. She is sailing, the upgrades and fixes have all been made, and if correctly done, in a few months she will begin sailing down to India.
With the Virkamaditya now sailing, the Canberra nearing completion, the 22DDH nearing completion, the Ford nearing completion and the QE nearing completion...this has been a pretty exciting and significant year for carrier development around the world.
And each one of these has another one which will follow it in a few years. Not to mention the Liaoning of course and then the follow on, first indigenous PLAN carrier when it starts building.
There has been a lot of talk about the space behind the Vikramaditya's island. This picture here shows you what they have done to turn the Admiral Gorshkov into the Vikramaditya. The orange parts is what they have removed and the green parts is what they have added. So it appears that they have removed 780 tons from the ship and added 8500 tons to it.
