At the time, replacing MiG-21s with a similar light fighter seemed like a good idea as well, but that was 40 years ago.
Exactly... but s*** hit the fan big time. With nothing steady in their industry, I cannot see how they will achieve bigger and more complex projects. The state of affairs is kind of sad in a way but it’s hilarious to see them chasing way to far ahead when nothing works well already..

Indian media showing off their new vehicles and heavy weapons for the border regions facing Pakistan and China. They boasted that these equipment were all Indian indeginious designs and manufacture. Jai Hind!

This comment sums up everything perfectly:

SideNote: I wish former Brit colony Militaries would stop doing the weird jumping-walking they do when doing the 'military'walk' just to open up the arty piece.

While sourcing parts from India might be cost effective for Sig Sauer, doing so has come at the expense of the gunmaker's reputation.

Guess you can say Indian gun parts are as reputable and as trustworthy as Indian media narratives. :p

TBF, the Indian shipbuilding industry should be able to construct an 18,000 ton cruiser with 144 VLS cells.

What they're going to struggle with is integrating disparate subsystems from Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Western Europe and god knows where else into a singular combat effective platform.

However, who are we to discourage them from trying? Let them waste their money on status symbols at the expense of actual capabilities . . .

Man even gun makers have to do this, cant you stick in your main countries/where you sell/have a big market, its not like its something huge labour intensive work (like making cars or other bigger /more complicated) products.
You gonna be using similar machines for the parts whether its in india or [insert country]
Smh.

Well Sig Sauer thought that Indian manufacturing "abundantly" meets their standards.

"We're continually increasing the percentage of components manufactured in India. Sig Sauer is a premium company and the largest firearms supplier to the US military. Our quality requirements are exceptionally stringent, and we find the necessary standards met abundantly in India,"

To be fair though. That gun in question is the notorious P320. Infamous for numerous unintentional discharges. Sig is facing numerous lawsuits for this. How much of it is attributed to Indian manufacture or Sig design flaw needs to be investigated further. So far, there's nothing conclusive yet.

Light fighters aren't anyhow easier than heavy ones. In fact, it's the opposite. Heavy aircraft design can survive bad weight control and good idea fairy, light fighter can't.

It's telling that since ww2, even US in general consistently failed at light fighter design. Their "medium"s are consistently great, but not below that.
