do we get partial credit / special mention etc. in the book? :D

if possible, let's have a character in the book, say a fighter pilot, named Mikhail Vladimirovich Sergeychev with the call-sign "panzerkom", who is the leader of an elite squadron called the "knights who say 'net'" :p

panzerkom is actually a pretty cool name LOL
ender if you havent started, i'd like to make a suggestion. you should keep the timel setting now (as in 2009). cuz by making it 2059 you have to construct everything imaginable that exist in this world. from the detailed weapon system to grand scheme of international relations, its a lot of extra work. if you make the setting now, there are a lot of things that are already available, like the weapon programs the soviets were workin on before the collapse, and we can get a better picture of what the world would look like today if USSR didnt collapse. just my opinion though its your book

Well most modern Russian armaments are really just 1991 armaments that have either been mouthballed or shelved until the funds were available that with the Putin years been put into service and finished their development cycle like that spiffy looking helicopter.

In reality the split from history begins in WWII where in the backstory the ahistorical Premier of the USSR begins his career and takes over instead of Khrushchev, if your an Orson Scott Card fan think of him as a more badass Peter Wiggin.

But I have it that history largely continues the same except that the Soviets "win" the Cuban missile crisis successfully establishing missile bases in Cuba keeping the US "at bay" to intervene in the 7 Day War and occupy the Middle East and their oil fields, this gives the Soviet Union the economic boost to survive until the mid 21st century.

Oh, I just remembered. There's a pretty good book called A History of Modern Russia, from Nicholas II to Putin. It's written by a British professor at Oxford named

I have the 2003 edition. It's about 550 pages, very informative, and not dry at all. I'd say it would be a good read at least for the political side of your research.

Here's a link to the book on amazon:

I got the reference and while I see plenty of places for Russian absurdist humor within the dialogue I just don't see the Soviet military signing off on a squadron named for it.

Concerning the Soviet Union: The SU of 1960 was very different from the one of 1980, also, the performance of Soviet armies varied a lot, and there are a lot of misconceptions about how it worked.
I may refer you to this:

Which is a fairly accurate observance of their 1945 performance against the Japanese.
